 ECONOMIC RESOURCES OF THE ACG

Administratively, the ACG is composed of: the Directorate, Technological Committee, Local Counsel, Departments, Sections, and Technical Programs, in which there are distributed about 105 permanent employees and around 30 indirect employees, which are composed of research assistants and temporary employees of the Programs.

More than 80% employees of the ACG come from neighboring communities, and of that total, 45% are women, which is an almost unique case in the management and administration of a Conservation Area. The activities and new works which are taking place in the ACG, next to the economic benefits, generate the personal and intellectual development of the employees, which has allowed for the consolidation of an efficient and professional personnel.

In the development of the administrative structure of the ACG, the starting point has been to incorporate the local communities in the conservation, management and administration of biodiversity of the region. This has been one of the main points in our philosophical vision which sees that conservation of tropical biodiversity has to be based on the participation of the local communities.
